A set of 141 reusable tatamis out of 950 donated by Shunan City in Yamaguchi Prefecture has been shipped to Bangladesh in cooperation with the shipping company Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha in November 2016. The handover ceremony of the tatamis was held between Bangladesh Judo Federation and Embassy of Japan in Bangladesh at a sports complex in Dhaka, the capital city of the nation on 26 December.
These tatamis will be distributed to multiple clubs or dojos in the region, and expected to be utilized for talented Judokas to train more effectively. We wish our project to be part of accelerating the Judo development in the country, and that our bonds between Bangladesh and Japan further deepen through Judo activities.
*In collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, as part of the international contribution measures << Sport for Tomorrow >> initiated by the Japanese government, All Japan Judo Federation is contributing reusable judogis and tatamis to countries lacking judo equipment, or in high expectations of better judo practicing environment.
